Ancient Cambodian Sand script.

In the first ten years after Angkor
Wat was opened to the public people were actually encouraged
to touch the engravings. The oils and dirt caused
the shiny black as seen here. It should be noted that
foreign visitors only started to visit Cambodia in recent
years. But even today, almost no engravings have
protection from human hands.

Hindu engraving of hell with a snake
like creature eating the sinners.

Sinners being lead by leashes attached
to their noses

Sinners being boiled alive

Sinners having nails to every part
of their bodies.

One of the many walls full of carvings.

Some carvings in various stages of
work from being outlined at the left to almost finished
at the right.
